Bernard is an 11th century Norman from Barfleur, on the eastern tip of
the Cotenin peninsula. He is married to Mistress Elfwyn de Barfleur, the
only decent person of her whole family. His father fought for William during
his ascension, and was awarded a fief at Barfleur, where he joined Constance,
his mother. Bernard is the youngest of three sons, and has stayed at home
while his oldest brother went to Constantinople and the middle son went
to Sicily. Upon his father's death, the oldest brother came home to manage
the family lands, leaving Bernard free to roam and search for a new home. |
